What were the American & British strategies for winning the war?

The initial plan for the British to win the war against the American colonists was proposed by General Howe, who took control of the British forces after the Battle of Bunker Hill. The British were going to march north up the Hudson River Valley, and join forces with the British army moving south out of Montreal. Doing this was trying to make it so it would isolate New England from the rest of the colonies, and with the support of the British navy, Massachusetts could be invaded and subdued from the West. If the Americans didn't surrender, then the British army would turn south and go through New York. The British relied on help from foreign mercenaries, called Hessians, to win the war.

The American soldiers had an advantage since they knew their surroundings of the area. The American's would hide behind bushes and shot people in coverage so the British soldiers wouldn't know where they were shooting from. They would fight in the woods so that they could hide and they attack the soldiers surprisingly. But because of this great advantage, I don't think that the American's would have won if they didn't know the area so well.
