What were the major causes of the American Revolution?

The American Revolution came about because the British government did not fully realize the seriousness of the unrest and dissatisfaction which developed soon in it's colonies in North America. The American colonies enjoyed having a large portion of self-government, and they wanted even more freedom from the British and so the British made the laws more strict and gave heavier taxes. The colonists had refused to pay these taxes. The Boston Tea Party was proposed to dump the incoming tea into the harbor instead of paying the taxes on it. Troops were sent into Massachusetts to strengthen British authority.

The American Revolution officially began with the Declaration of Independence. The American Revolution resulted in the newly independent United States, compared to the French Revolution who overthrew its own government. However, the French people were really impressed with the idea of freedom and democracy, and so these ideas were greatly influenced in their thinking.
